Jean Paul Gagnon, Ph.D., is Director of Public Policy at sanofi-aventis in Bridgewater, NJ. He received a B.S. in Pharmacy and a M.S. in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. in Pharmacy Administration from Ohio State University. He is a former professor and division head of Pharmacy Administration in the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina and has worked for sanofi-aventis for twenty years.
He has written over sixty articles in peer-reviewed journals and has made presentations on a variety of issues including Medicare, Part D, Evidence-based Medicine and the effect of federal policy on the pharmaceutical industry and pharmacy practice.
In 2002 he received the APhA Hugo H. Schaefer Award for outstanding volunteer contributions to the profession of pharmacy. In 1981-82, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow in Washington, D.C. and worked as a committee staff person on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Health. He was chairman of the Health Outcomes Committee of the Pharmaceutical Research Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) from 1997 until 2001, president of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy for the 1985-86 year, served as Treasurer and a Board of Trustee member of the American Pharmaceutical Association from 1991 until 1997, served as President of the International Association of Pharmaco-economics and Outcomes Research from 1996 until 1997 and was their Treasurer from 1998 until 2004, and was a member of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer for the U. S. Pharmacopeia from 1995 until 2005.
In his present position, he is involved in public policy activities for sanofi-aventis.
